30 second interview - Simon Kohler

27 July 2010

  Simon kohler hornby

We have a quick chat with Simon Kohler, Hornby Hobbies' Group Marketing Manager

Modeller or collector? Neither - exhibitor!

Describe your layout in a few words: A big building between Ramsgate and Margate.

Your first time in the hobby? Visiting Parkers shop in Louth, Lincolnshire, aged ten, and seeing the Hornby-Dublo Sir Nigel Gresley.

Favourite locomotive and why? Gresley’s A4 – awesome, powerful and an evocative icon.

Who do you admire in the hobby?
Tony Wright for his very honest, balanced approach to reviews and Pat Hammond for his knowledge, integrity and editorial ability.

Favourite show moment?
Young children rushing up to the layout at shows and standing there awestruck.

Club man or do your own thing? Own thing.

One thing you would change in the hobby: Extremism.

Name five train related films: Von Ryan's Express, Leaving Jerusalem, Manhunt, The Man Who Watched Trains Go By, The Man Who Would be King, The Silent Passenger, The Signalman - easy when you’re reading Railways on the Silver Screen!

How do you see the hobby in ten years time? Exciting!

Best thing you've seen in the hobby in the last 12 months? Excluding Hornby products, Bassett-Lowke’s Flying Scotsman at Nuremburg.

What are you listening to at the moment? Please, Please Me (The Beatles).
